Front row seats to the BRIT School’s rising talent

GMS1.jpgFor the second year running, the BRIT School’s Global Majority Show was brought to life in partnership with the Dr. Martens Foundation - and this time, a handful of Dr. Martens employees experienced the night of rising talent first-hand.

First established in 2020, the annual Global Majority Show is a bold, student-led celebration of the stories and cultures of African, Asian, Indigenous and Latin American communities. This year’s theme, Sport, inspired a powerful mix of music, theatre, dance and spoken word.

“Being non-British, I hadn’t heard of the BRIT School until this event. Of course, a quick Google search shows an impressive list of alumni, but the talent of the students themselves spoke louder than any words. Their passion shone through fiercely and fearlessly, which is so special to see from young people.”

More than just a showcase of the student’s creativity, the night’s performances also held a deeper purpose - from retelling the journeys of trailblazing athletes to exploring resilience and identity through performance:GMS2.jpg

“I was blown away by the talent on display. The celebrations of African, Asian, Indigenous and Latin American communities resonated with me and taught me about the life stories of some of the most iconic athletes and activists.”

For colleagues in the audience, the experience was a reminder of why this partnership matters - not just in creating an unforgettable show, but to give more young people the space to express themselves:

“I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to watch the show, but also grateful that these students get the opportunity to put on this show with the support  of the Dr. Martens Foundation. I hope we continue to work with The BRIT School to allow these students to keep showcasing their talent.”

GMS4.jpgIt was also a reminder of how vital schools like BRIT are in giving young people the chance to build a future in the arts.

“It’s reassuring to know that there are places out there like the BRIT School, making genuine differences in the lives of children and parents, and proving that artistic expression has real academic value.”

We’re proud to be working in partnership with The BRIT School to give more young people the creative space to express who they are and shape who they can become. Congratulations and thank you to the BRIT School students and team for pulling together yet another incredible show as part of this.
